EMBRACING CHANGE: Out of the Comfort Zone...Into the Circus

There is freedom waiting for you, On the breezes of the sky, And you ask, “What if I fall?” Oh, but my darling, What if you fly? —Erin Hanson

The most unsettling part of change is the space that occurs between the place where we are right now and the next destination on our life's journey. Leaving our comfort zone and entering that space can be a bit unnerving. Suddenly, we’re like a beginner on a trapeze facing the fear of letting go with nothing to hold onto. In some ways, embracing change requires us to approach life like a trapeze artist. I remember going to the circus as a child and watching the acrobats as they’d swing from one trapeze to the next. They always knew exactly when to let go. For a moment, they would have nothing to hold onto, or to rely on, except their own momentum. I would sit in amazement with the rest of the audience. We’d follow the acrobats' every move as they would fly gracefully through the air to the next trapeze. We admired them for having the courage to risk such a daring feat. Like the trapeze artist who dares to let go and propels forward to the next bar, we, too, must be willing to let go and embrace the space that occurs between the past and the future knowing that our faith and wisdom will provide the momentum and guidance necessary to propel us from where we are at this moment to the next place on our journey… “And you ask, what if I fall, oh, but my darling, what if you fly?” —Rev.
